Automated Community-Cat Guide & Ordered Intake Router

Ask Sandy — Check Your Next Step

Hi, I’m Sandy, Carolina Street Cats’ automated community-cat guide. Answer a few quick questions to see which pathway our rules recommend, or go straight to the official Caregiver Intake survey.

How Our Intake Works

Our ordered router screens for urgent safety and Union County location first, then connects you to Trap School (Dec 5), Snip & Clip cat slots (Dec 11), humane trap checkout, or hands-on colony review.

Good to know: Sandy is an automated guide—not a human staff member. She never promises surgery capacity or volunteer crews, and donations never affect priority.

What is TNVR?

Trap · Neuter · Vaccinate · Return. TNVR is a proven, humane way to reduce the number of outside cats and improve their lives.

  1. TrapCats are humanely trapped using safe, approved traps.
  2. NeuterCats are spayed or neutered by a veterinarian.
  3. VaccinateCats receive core vaccinations and basic vet care while under anesthesia.
  4. ReturnCats go back to their outdoor home, identified by an ear tip.

How to trap a cat

Before you set a trap: have a confirmed spay/neuter plan and a secure indoor holding space ready. Remove food about 24 hours before your trapping window, but always provide water.
  1. Place the trap in a familiar spotSet on level ground in shade.
  2. Line and bait the trapLine with a puppy pad; put smelly bait in a paper/plastic bowl at the back. Never use metal cans or glass.
  3. Cover the trapDrape a light towel over top and sides. Avoid night trapping when wildlife is active.
  4. Once trapped = stays trappedMove immediately to quiet indoor holding on risers over puppy pads. Never open the door indoors.

Found a kitten? Now what?

Pro tip: Sprinkle a circle of flour around the nest and check back later for mom's pawprints. Keep healthy kittens under 6 weeks with mom; friendly kittens 6+ weeks can come inside for vetting and adoption, and unsocial kittens 8+ weeks (2+ lbs) can be scheduled for TNVR.
